Great news for cassowaries — and for everyone who loves seeing them safe in the wild!

A cutting-edge AI trial on the Kennedy Highway at Kuranda has been a huge success, helping to protect our beloved Southern Cassowaries in one of FNQ’s busiest wildlife corridors.

The system — called LAARMA — used AI-powered sensors to detect cassowaries near the road and instantly alert drivers with flashing signs. Over just three months, it reached 97% accuracy in spotting the birds and helped reduce vehicle speeds by an average of 6.3 km/h when warnings were displayed.

With the risk of serious crashes down by 31%, this trial could mean fewer injuries to both cassowaries and drivers. And there`s more good news — TMR is now looking at ways to make this a permanent road safety feature and even expand it to protect other animals (and people!) in different areas.

CRIME VICTIMS DOWN: First transparent look at 2025 data shows real progress in making Queensland safer! The Crisafulli Government is delivering on our promise to reduce victims of crime with new monthly transparency data showing significant improvements across key areas.

The results speak for themselves:

📉 5.7% drop in overall victims of crime
🏠 12% reduction in break-ins
🚗 6.4% decrease in stolen cars
💰 13.2% drop in robbery victims

For the first time, Queenslanders can access monthly victim data instead of waiting 18 months for annual reports. This real-time transparency allows our community to see how government measures are working.

Our approach is delivering results: more police, stronger laws, effective early intervention and rehabilitation programs. We promised to make Queensland safer by reducing victims of crime, and these early numbers show we`re on the right track.

This is good news for QLD, but FNQ has a very long way to go.
